Reading at the Crossroads

Reading at the Crossroads is an archive for columns and letters which appeared in the Terre Haute Tribune Star. I also blog here when my patience is exhausted by what I feel is irritating, irrational and/or ironic in life. --gary daily

Memorial Day - 2012

For ten years, each Memorial Day weekend, I try to post something expressing part of what we as a nation have asked of those who paid the price of serving in our Iraq and Afghanistan wars.  This year I’ve decided to re-post a 2008 entry from my blog.  Even as deaths and human carnage continue to pile up in Afghanistan (two brave Americans died yesterday),  it’s not too early to sear into our memories the history of the arrogance and folly of these wars.  May these tragedies never be “forgotten wars.”

. . .  and go here for NYT’s “Faces of the Dead” memorial
