Reading at the Crossroads

Reading at the Crossroads is an archive for columns and letters which appeared in the Terre Haute Tribune Star. I also blog here when my patience is exhausted by what I feel is irritating, irrational and/or ironic in life. --gary daily

Try not to laugh--Supporter accepts Trump is not Perfect

Letter: 'Perfect' has no meaning

  •

A letter praising Trump appeared in last week’s Terre Haute Tribune Star. It included this bit of humble brag:  “Donald Trump is not a perfect person.”

Needless to say, if you're paying attention to comments from anyone selling you something, the word "perfect" no longer has any real meaning. It's used ubiquitously, without thought or sincerity.  Applying it to DT puts a stake of finality into "perfect" as a term of approbation.

However, apply "perfect" to DT and follow it with any of the seven deadly sins-- pride, greed, lust, envy, gluttony, wrath, and sloth-- and you're starting to approach this not-a-man's character and behavior.

And we all suffer the result of 2024.
